Explanation of Rate Decks
Why some of our rates are up to 95% LOWER than other low-cost VoIP providers.
We use the most unique rate system in the industry. That’s because other companies simply don’t allow
their customers to pay based on the same rate tables to which THEY have access. We do. We’re different. Normally, rate plans such as ours are available ONLY to large commercial VoIP companies and telephone exchanges. We have made the same style of rate plan available to our customers because it’s the best way to pass on meaningful discount and wholesale pricing.
How “Other” Companies Charge Their Customers
(What they DON’T Tell You)
Retail VoIP companies normally do two things we DON’T DO: (a) Give a single price for an entire country and/or class of phones (like cell vs landline), and (b) Round the minutes UP to the next closest minute even if the call is only 2 seconds long.
What they DON”T tell you is that THEY pay a different price for every single six-digit area code & prefix combination in their calling area. Therefore, the only way they can give you a single price for the ENTIRE area (like USA, Philippines, etc.) is they must take an average of all the traffic they get and make sure their prices are high enough on the really LOW cost calls to overcome the losses they experience on the HIGH cost calls. To do so, they have to make a very large profit on the vast majority of calls made through their system. The second thing they never tell you is that they pay in one-tenth-of-a-minute increments (and sometims 1-second increments), not FULL the full one-minute increments YOU have to pay to them. This results in windfall profits for them especially on shorter phone calls (which is the majority of calls). We don’t fault others for making big profits. Nothing wrong with that! We just say this is a VERY competitive business and WE have a way to provide the same service at a much better price for the majority of phone numbers that are called.
How We Are Different
Because VoIP carriers like us pay for our access based on a “table” of rates, with each combination of area code and prefix having its own fee, we pass on the entire rate table to our customers. This does result in some areas having a higher fee than the average amount charged by most VoIP carriers. As a general rule of thumb, rural areas normally cost more because the call volume is smaller. Bigger, more populated areas are cheaper.
Because most calls are directed into the higher population areas where the cost is less, the majority of calls made through our system are also cheaper. Many of them are MUCH cheaper. For example, in the USA, the area code / prefix combination of “402208” in our Basic Rate Deck is $0.003 per minute. That’s about one-third-of-one-penny per minute. And THAT is broken up into 1/10 of a minute increments! This is about 85% LESS than the rates many carriers call their “DISCOUNT RATE” of $0.02 per minute. If you are in a different country than the USA, just convert these amounts to your local currency. For instance our fee for a call to the 402208 combination from Philippines to the USA would only be about 14 Centavos per minute.
An Example Based On The USA Table
These area code / prefix tables are known in the telecom industry as industry as “NPA/NXX” rate decks. Just to show you how detailed the system is, in the USA, there are over 180,000 such combinations. In the Philippines, there are just under 2,200 NPA/NXX combinations, each one with its own price. Pricing is calculated out to the 1,000th of a penny for wholesale carriers by their suppliers.
We do the same for our customers. When you look at your call detail records, you will notice they are priced as $0.xxxx. Our Rate Decks contain all the pricing for all NPA/NXX codes for each country.
If you upgrade to a Rate Deck plan with us, your exact pricing is based upon the Rate Deck to which you upgrade. In studying the Basic Rate Deck which contains similar ratios to other countries, it’s important to note that tens of thousands of these codes are less than 1/2¢ per minute, with over 78,000 prices less than 1¢.
How To Calculate Your Rates
For your convenience, you may download the current rate table at any time or view it online. It’s a CSV file so it can be easily
opened by Excel, Notepad, or any other program that opens a CSV (“Comma Separated Value”) file. Just look up the 6-digit area code plus prefix in the table for any phone number you wish to call if you want to know the exact per-minute price you’ll pay to call that phone number. You can view the codes and rates through your browser by using Google’s Chrome Browser. This is currently the only browser that supports opening a “CSV” file in the browser window.
When using Chrome to search for area codes and prefixes, just call up the “Find” function with “CTRL-F” on your keyboard. A search bar opens in the upper right corner of your browser. Just type in “1” plus the number combination and the cursor will jump to that number as you type it (look for the highlighted number on your screen). Tables for each country are updated from time to time as our costs are updated by our carriers. Feel free to check back often to see whether your pricing has changed or not. Prices are subject to change without notice.
